The Royal Netherlands Society for Military Art and Science (KVBK) and the Netherlands Atlantic Association organize a meeting themed: Security in Northern Europe.
With NATO returning its focus to its core mission of deterrence and collective defence, certain regions have regained strategic prominence. One of the most important is Northern Europe, also defined as the twelve countries that constitute The Northern Group.
During this meeting various national concerns and challenges will be examined, and possible actions to ensure that the region remains prosperous and safe will be discussed. The program offers a geostrategic insight into the differing security priorities of the key actors in Northern Europe, both the Baltic Sea-oriented ones and those more interested in the North Atlantic region.
Svein Efjestad (Norwegian Ministry of Defence) will share the Nordic view on the matter and Jamie Shea (NATO) the Alliance’s and general trans-Atlantic perspective. Lieutenant General Martin Wijnen will focus on the Dutch angle. The program’s moderator is Han ten Broeke, Director of Political Affairs, the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies.
